Factors Leading to One’s Bad Ending in Life
Among the factors that lead to one’s bad ending in life are the following:
1- Haughtiness
Haughtiness was the reason why Iblees (Satan) disobeyed God and refused to prostrate before Adam.
2- Hubbu Dunya (Love towards this world)
Loving this world causes one to have a bad ending because he cannot put up with leaving it. Imam Sadiq (AS) said loving the world causes leaving the religion and having a bad ending. That is what happened to Balaam, the son of Beor. Balaam was a pious servant of God whose prayers were answered but he fell into the trap of Satan and started loving the world. That caused him to abandon Moses (AS) and become a supporter of oppressors.
The Holy Quran says about him: “Satan overtook him so he was led astray.” (Verse 175 of Surah Al-Imran)
3- Sins
The Holy Quran says: “The end of the evil-doers was terrible, for they had rejected the revelations of God and mocked them.” (Verse 10 of Surah Ar-Rum)
The end of those who insist on wrongdoing, make light of sins and refuse to repent) is like the end of those who reject divine revelations.
In various Hadiths, people have been urged to repent right after every sin because committing sins has an impact on one’s soul which, if it is not removed with repentance, could do much harm to his soul and heart.
4- Having weak belief
Sometimes one’s faith is not based on thinking and logic. Such faith is superficial and can be easily shaken with the least amount of doubts or questions.
The Quran says: “As for the human being, when his Lord tests him, honors him, and grants him bounty, he says, ‘God has honored me’. However, when his Lord tests him by a measured amount of sustenance, he says, ‘God has disgraced me.’” (Verses 15-16 of Surah Al-Fajr)
Such people have faith when they are in good conditions and start complaining when things do not go their way. On the other hand, there are people with strong faith who say in their prayers: “God! Even if you throw me in hell, I will shout in hell that I love you.”
After the martyrdom of his family members and his companions, Imam Hussein (AS) said: “God! I am pleased with your satisfaction and submission to your order.”
